*OLD Creative Work
Hopefully my “real” work shows that I understand how to get stuff done.
But to show you that I know how to take an idea and run with it, here are a few creative assignments I came up with to highlight my writing.
Words With (More Than) Friends
Sure, for some people “Words With Friends” is just a game. A way to pass the time during your morning commute, a chance to flex your vocabulary skills, or revel in a sweet 3-letter, 13-pointer victory. But now there’s something for everyone looking for something more.
This is “Words With (More Than) Friends,” the only puzzle game that lets you test your intellectual compatibility with eligible users around the world. You’ll have the chance to create your own profile and then engage opponents whose profiles interest you in a battle of wordplay wits! It’s the same game you know and love with the added ability to direct message, Snapchat, or just play. If it turns into something more, well that’s up to you.
Here’s a digital video script on the idea:
The LaCroix Boixs
All hipsters agree on two things:
1. Mercury is definitely in retrograde
2. There’s nothing better than cracking open a fresh can of LaCroix.
Boasting zero calories, all-natural ingredients, and tons of unique flavors, LaCroix has is quickly becoming a universal status symbol among millennials. The next step? Put a hunky face (or four) to the name.
Introducing, the LaCroix Boixs.
For this concept, LaCroix casts an actual “band” (think The Monkees) to form a hot new dance/pop group called the “LaCroix Boixs.” They’ll perform impromptu concerts at LaCroix retailers, record original songs to stream on Spotify, and eventually bring fans in on the fun with a nation-wide #LiveLaCroix talent search for the next addition to the band. A series of online webisodes would appear on LaCroix’s YouTube channel and shorter versions would appear as preroll ads before video content.
Here’s a digital video script for what this idea could look like:
Yankee Candle
Historians (Wikipedia) estimate that candles have been around since approximately 200 B.C. And before they became luxury home accents, candles were simple goods made with real ingredients, by real people.
That’s where Yankee Candle comes in. From its humble beginnings in small town Massachusetts, Yankee Candle has grown into the largest candle manufacturer in the United States. But you don’t get that far without paying homage to your roots, and without recognizing that some things are just better made the old-fashioned way.
In this script, Amos, an original Yankee Candle candlemaker, travels around the world to capture the newest scents the old world way.
Yankee Candle cont’d.
Like I said, candles are pretty goddamn old. They’ve (literally) given light to revolutionary thinkers, inventors, and world leaders for thousands of years.
So, this option highlights the role of Yankee Candle throughout history. For example, everyone knows the story of Paul Revere’s midnight ride – but what most people don’t know is that he almost missed his cue thanks to a delicious smelling Yankee Candle…
